As deep as they are, the divers can still feel the force of the powerful waves above them. They must contend with constant changes in the pressure on their bodies as the mass of water eight stories above them crests and falls. |

This assignment off the shore of Coos Bay, Ore., is the latest expansion of a commercial diving business the Olympia-based Nisqually Indian Tribe started in the mid-’90s to increase its shellfish harvest.
